Lessons in workplace safety are just part of what industry will gain at the Safety First Conference & Expo opening this Tuesday in Melbourne. Australia’s only one-stop safety event, Safety First brings industry professionals together with leading experts from WorkSafe Australia, academic and industry figures to, alongside a showcase of innovative safety products and services.
“The issue of workplace safety has never been more important. Already this year, 44 Australian workers have been killed while at work – including 12 workers in the Transport, postal & warehousing industry,” comments Anthony Reed, Event Director.
“This figure brings us within range of Australia’s total workplace fatalities for last year – 49 – suggesting urgent action is needed. We must be clear about which workplace strategies are likely to make a difference: and one of the more effective ways of doing that is by getting together and discussing how and why a particular strategy is likely to work.”
Safety First’s four-day conference program will provide a solid foundation for those discussions, with industry experts addressing some of the most intractable issues, such as communications programs, the safety culture, building a resilient workforce and specialist topics around hot-button issues including transport and multi-employer site responsibilities..
Among program highlights is a real-time test, on Day 1 – May 26 – of a safety scenario, showing how technology, processes and your actions can combine for successful outcomes.
